I don’t know if you heard, but…

Higher income is associated with greater life satisfaction, and more stress, found a study recently published on Nature.com.

The researchers looked at data from over 2 million adults in the U.S. (from the Gallup Daily Poll, 2008–2017) to see how income relates to both life satisfaction and stress and they found that there was a key turning point at around $63,000 per year.

  • Below $63,000 per year: As income went up, stress went down. This is likely because people could cover basic needs more easily.

  • Above $63,000 per year: Higher income was actually linked to more stress. The more people earned beyond this amount, the more likely they were to report stress.

  • Regardless of income, people who had a stressful day reported feeling less satisfied with life overall.

So, what do we learn from this data?

Perhaps it’s that money can buy happiness, just up to a point though.

I don’t know if you heard, but…

A new study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine has found the answer to the burning question: How much disengagement and burnout can affect employers’ bottom line?

And it’s $3,999–$20,683 per employee per year.

More specifically, according to the study:

  • Employee disengagement/burnout can cost employers 0.2–2.9 times the average health insurance cost and 3.3–17.1 times employee training costs.

  • At an average U.S. 1,000-person company, employee burnout resulted in over $5 million in costs annually.
  • Given presenteeism represented up to 89% of these costs, most of these costs may go unrecognized by employers.
